What is solution-focused hypnotherapy?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy, or SFH for short, uses a combination of modern psychotherapy approaches, neuroscientific research, and hypnosis to help clients achieve positive changes in their lives.

To begin with SFH gives you an understanding of how the brain works, how your brain perceives problems, and how this can affect your everyday life through your biological functions (such as getting poor sleep or having panic attacks). SFH combines this knowledge with Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnotic trance to help reset the mind to a positive place from which solutions and answers can be found.

The trance state which comes from hypnosis is a very natural, relaxing state. It is accessed by using guided relaxation where the mind can relax and, once it is relaxed, focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful.

By using SFH, the hypnotherapist and the client work together to make the changes the client wishes to see in their life, and this is usually achieved over a relatively short space of time.

Who can it help?

SFH is appropriate for all ages as it's entirely Using a variety of techniques, SFH can help with a great many problems. These include:

  • Anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Stress

  • Weight management

  • Stopping smoking

  • Phobias

  • Insomnia

  • Depression

  • Low self-esteem

  • Lack of confidence

  • Exam nerves

  • Stage fright

  • Bad habits

It can also effectively improve sports performance or performance at work, as well as helping with a number of other problems.

It is worth noting however that success cannot be guaranteed and the client will need to want to make the changes to their life and that client commitment is vital.

Will it make me do things I don't want to?

No. Despite what films and TV may like to show for the sake of entertainment, you cannot be hypnotised against your will. If something is suggested to you during hypnosis that you are not comfortable with or don't agree with then the mind will reject it.

What happens in the intial consultation?

The initial consulation takes around an hour. During this time we will get to know each other and I will talk you through how the subconscious and conscious mind work, and help you to identify how this is affecting your everyday life and the problems you are experiencing.

In the initial consulation we will also identify what your goals are in getting SFH and find the most effective treatment plan for you. I will then give you my free MP3 of a guided hypnosis which you should listen to on a regular basis, ideally before sleeping at night. This is an important part of treatment.

How much does it cost?

The initial consultation is free.

Thereafter each session is £60 and lasts for about an hour.

The stopping smoking session is a longer session of between 90 minutes and two hours and is £120.

Cancellation policy

If you can no longer attend an appointment please give me at least 24 hours notice. Appointments cancelled after this time will be charged at 50% of the full price of the appointment.
